Love is the great miracle cure. Loving ourselves works miracles in our lives.
—LOUISE HAY

Dear Friend,

How long has it been since you cleaned out your closet? Most of us have closets stuffed with items of clothing and paraphernalia which existed in our lives at one point or another – and many items have been entirely forgotten. In our society clothing is fashion and therefore a temporary reign in our lives. But instead of replacing the old with the new, we add one thing after another and then complain there is no more room in our closets. Let’s look at it this way, our closets can be considered symbols of our minds. A cluttered closet could mean a cluttered mind. When I moved from New York to California it forced me to clean not only my closet, but my entire life. I took everything out of my apartment, examined each item and asked myself, “Is this item still useful? Have I used this item in the last six months or year? Do I have to keep this worn item because I’m afraid I won’t be able to replace it?” When it was done I kept only what I loved and needed and began a new life without the clutter of the past.

In order for me to make room for the new (whether it’s new clothes or new thoughts and ideas), I had to release the old and the outworn. Now I go through my closets every six months or so and anything I know I won’t use again either gets sold, sent to the thrift shops, or I give them away. It’s no longer useful to me and is taking up precious room. I find that the sweater I was in love with three years ago is now a color I don’t care for. Do I want to keep it around on the chance that I may need it one day? Not at all! I’m well aware that I’ll always be able to buy a new sweater when I need to. That’s how we clear the debris from ourselves and embrace the new. Do the same with our thoughts and self judgement.

“I say “Out” to every negative thought that comes to my mind. No person, place, or thing has any power over me, for I am the only thinker in my mind. I create my own reality and everyone in it.”

Did I always feel this way? No. I grew up during the Depression of the 1930s and in extreme poverty. So it took me many years to realize and accept that I was the only person responsible for my lack of prosperity. A simple change of mind can reverse years of fear of lack. So, my darlings, let go and begin anew by rolling of your sleeves and tackling that cluttered space. And while you do, pay attention to how you feel while you’re cleaning out those closets. Are you doing it with joy and anticipation of the space you are allowing in your life? Or are you stuck in the mental system of “not having” and scoffing in disbelief that the abundance of the Universe is available to everyone, including you?

The simple shift of believing the Universe will offer infinite abundance of happiness, love and prosperity will then allow you to fill your emotional closet with faith, instead of fear.
