Do You Live in a Healthy City?

Posted: 03 Nov 2016 02:12 PM PDT

Money magazine recently listed the healthiest places to live. The top 10:

10. St. Augustine, FL
9. San Rafael, CA
8. Provo, UT
7. Cheyenne, WY
6. Nashua, NH
5. Quincy, MA
4. Woodbury, MN
3. Greenwich, CT
2. Koolaupoko, HI
1. Highlands Ranch, CO

Here's a quote specific to #1:

With the lowest adult obesity rate in the country, Colorado residents are the healthiest in the country.

When we moved to Colorado, we noticed people were outside all the time running, biking, climbing mountains, walking trails, whatever.

My daughter mentioned what great shape people were in. She said, "It's kind of intimidating going to the health club in Colorado. When we lived in Oklahoma you could workout and be a bit out of shape and you were still better than average. In Colorado it seems like everyone is an Olympic athlete so even if you're in decent shape you're behind the pack."

It's true. People are more active here which translates into being in better shape on average.

And we know that being in better shape can translate to better finances in all sorts of ways. For instance, people who work out make more and people at a proper weight save a ton of money.

So, a couple questions for you today:

  • Do you live in a healthy or unhealthy place?
  • Despite where you live, are you doing anything to become/stay physically fit?

If you are working to improve yourself physically, your finances will thank you.
