Why we won't give up on Syria today

Today marks 6 years since the start of the conflict in Syria - 6 years of violence, trauma and suffering for the Syrian people. Despite the desperate situation, we will not give up.

Dear ,

Today marks 6 years since the start of the conflict in Syria - 6 years of violence, trauma and suffering for the Syrian people.

Despite the desperate situation, we will not give up. Every day, the disabled and injured people we support give us so much motivation and hope for the future, children like 7-year-old Salam. But we need your help to make a difference.

Please donate today to help more children like Salam

Salam is a wonderfully cheerful little girl with a remarkable spirit. In late 2015, Salam was playing in an olive field with her little brother when she spotted something unusual and bent down to pick it up.

“She was too young to know it was dangerous,” says Ali, who looks after her.

The bomb exploded. Salam was severely injured and her brother died instantly. The little girl was rushed to hospital in Jordan where doctors amputated her left leg and part of her right foot.

“It was so hard to see her like that,” recalls Ali. “I couldn’t understand how an innocent child could lose a leg in a war she didn’t even understand...”

As Salam slowly recovered, our team were by her side. We fitted her with a prosthetic leg and continue to provide her with regular physiotherapy care. Her resilience is amazing and gives us so much hope. Your gift today could help more children like Salam.

Salam is just one little girl, caught up in a crisis of an unimaginable scale.

To date, Handicap International teams in Lebanon, Jordan, Syria and Iraq have fitted more than 9,000 people (including Salam) with prosthetics and orthotics. Thousands more have benefitted from physical rehabilitation sessions and psychological support.

And, sadly, there are so many more people who desperately need help. By supporting our life-changing work, you can truly make a difference.

Please don't give up hope - donate to our Syria appeal today

With my heartfelt thanks,

Aleema Shivji
Executive Director, Handicap International UK
