WHERE THERE'S A WIL

After prolonged periods of injury and a season away on loan at Bournemouth, Jack Wilshere is once again showing Arsenal fans the talent that marked him out as one of Europe's most gifted young midfielders and a firm favourite among the Emirates faithful. After excellent displays in the Europa League and Carabao Cup, Jack's ready for big-time Premier League action. So what is it that indicates to the 25 year-old that his game truly back on track again? "I think the big thing and I always hear the boss say it as well is the first five-metre burst," says Jack, who remains our youngest ever Premier League player, aged 16 years 256 days. "My initial burst of speed, when I receive the ball and get away from defenders. I feel that's getting better and better each day. The way to improve that mostly is in games, when you're playing against opposition that want to win and want to win the ball back. "You have to be able to keep the ball, so that's coming back, and my fitness levels, if I'm honest, are probably the best they've ever been. I look at my numbers after the games, and don't get me wrong, I don't run the most we've got a lot of players that do that but my numbers are good." Now he's back, the England international is determined to do everything in his powers to keep out on the pitch and out of the treatment room: "As you get older your body changes," says Jack, who'll be hoping his form gives him the opportunity to add to his 34 caps for his country, "you pick up injuries, you have to be more careful with certain situations and it makes you stronger as well. I've always loved playing football. That's what I wanted to do and there have been times when it's been tough. When you're injured and you wake up in the morning, you think, "Oh, I've got to go to training. All the other lads are training outside, but I've got to go to the gym," and that makes you stronger. It makes you appreciate it more and try and do everything you can to keep fit and stay on the pitch."
