McKinney hosts Santa’s Helpers Toy Drive on Dec. 7
The WFAA Channel 8 Santa's Helpers Toy Drive returns to Historic Downtown McKinney for the third year in a row. The community is invited to drop off toys from 5-8:30 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 7 on Kentucky Street next to the McKinney Performing Arts Center. Santa's Helpers collects new, unwrapped toys for more than 50,000 needy children, from infant to teens, in each of the four Dallas-Fort Worth counties. To learn more about the toy drive, visit online
Residents invited to weigh in on Collin County Transit expansion
The McKinney Urban Transit District (MUTD) is looking for ways to expand the Collin County Transit Program and would like input from the community. Residents are encouraged to visit the city’s website to complete the online survey by Jan. 5.

Residents will be surveyed on topics including current public transit uses, appropriate cost levels, what constitutes quality service, typical destinations and more. Printed copies of the survey are available at the McKinney Public Libraries. 

McKinney Public Library System introduces goals for next five years
The library has updated their long-range plan to serve as a guide for the Library Advisory Board and library staff and includes goals to achieve by 2022.

Some of the plans include changes that residents can expect to see this spring, including the creation of a bilingual collection, the addition of color and two-sided printing services, as well as the implementation of mobile book libraries to visit underserviced communities. MCDC accepting project grants applications
Each year, McKinney Community Development Corporation (MCDC) allocates a percentage of its annual budget for funding to support quality of life projects that will benefit the community and are eligible for funding in accordance with the Texas Local Government Code. Christmas tree safety tips could save your holiday
The McKinney Fire Department (MFD) recommends residents protect themselves as they deck the halls this holiday season. A small fire that spreads to a Christmas tree or starts with a Christmas tree can grow large very quickly. Below are a few tips suggested by MFD:
  • Never overload power outlets
  • Always water your Christmas tree
  • Never put candles near your Christmas tree

City Council meetings
City of McKinney Council McKinney City Council invites and encourages the public to attend all Council and board and commission meetings.

The next regular City Council meeting will be at 6 p.m. Dec. 5 at City Hall, 222 N. Tennessee St.

The Council agenda, which lists all items to be considered at each week's sessions, is available to the public 72 hours before the Council meeting.
