Hurricane Irma Blasts Into the Record Books With Lasting Intensity

Hurricane Irma was the longest-lasting powerful hurricane or typhoon ever recorded, worldwide. Irma sustained its 185-mph winds for 37 hours – "the longest any cyclone around the globe has maintained that intensity on record," according to Phil Klotzbach, a research scientist at Colorado State University. The National Hurricane Center has verified Klotzbach's tally of Irma's place in history, adding that some of the figures could change when the formal Tropical Cyclone Report is released later this year. To Revitalize Oktoberfest Beers, U.S. Brewers Turn to Germany for Inspiration

When you’re toasting with friends at an Oktoberfest party, you’re probably not paying too much attention to what’s inside the glass, and that can be a good thing: Many Oktoberfest-style beers made by U.S. craft breweries miss the mark. All too often, they veer to the sweeter side of the spectrum: caramel malts and sticky toffee flavors. And that doesn’t do much for a style that’s already traditional to the point of conservative and boring. So how do you make Oktoberfest beers interesting and relevant 176 years after they were introduced in Munich? For some U.S. craft brewers, the answer is looking back across the Atlantic.
